My full name is Pamela Star, but my parents (at the end of the hippy era, who gave me my very own last name instead of the family name) were calling me Star since infancy. The nickname stuck.
How much experience do I have?
I attended my first birth as a doula in September 2005. As of 2020 I've had the honor of being present for about 280 births. I support about 20 births each year.
Why am I a doula?
I want to help birthing parents and their partners have more positive birth experiences. I've learned that parents usually look back on their birth positively when they feel supported (physically and emotionally), respected, and included in any decision-making after being well-informed (to their own standards).
Where do I attend births?
I'm based in the East Bay, and attend hospital and home births throughout the Bay Area, primarily San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland, but also Contra Costa, Solano, Marin, Napa and Sonoma Counties.
